andre_custodio
Hi, I'm new to the forum and fairly new to photography but am looking forward to becoming a full part of the photography world. However I'm not able to at the moment as my OM-2 has jammed.

I received it just the other day, (been using a Pentax K1000 and Zenit E) and just to test it, without film I advanced and fired the shutter until it got to the end. I then pressed the rewind release button but now everything's jammed. The shutter wont fire, the advance lever won't move and the R button is pressed and won't come back up. I'm not sure why it's done this, I'm thinking it's something I done but I don't know what. Anyone experienced anything similar? Any help would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks
andre_custodio
Sorry I'm a bit new to this, the small window at the side which has the exposure count is on S which I believe is start. I'm not sure what it got to the end of then, I didn't have any film in. I've tried it in manual B mode, it still doesn't fire. The batteries I think are fine as on the SP model (not sure if yours has it) there is a battery check mode and it says if the red light is steady then the batteries are fine, and mine is doing exactly that. I have read other threads though and the batteries being flat seems to be a common theme.
baachitraka_.
Can you try to open the back door and see whether shutter curtains are jammed in the mid-way...
john_hermanson2
I repair a lot of OM-4, 2S for this problem. Problem is that wind gears are now out of sync. wind mechaanism has to be taken apart, degreased and rebuilt. I'd be happy to do it for you if you chose to send it. I'm working full time at Tamron now, but have not in any way abandoned OM. John
john_hermanson2
B is completely mechanical, if you can wind the shutter, it should fire on B without batteries. If wind lever is jammed, turning to B does not reset the shutter, then you have a mechanical jam. John
andre_custodio
Thanks for the comments, curtains aren't jammed, I'm worried that you might be right John. It looks like a mechanical jam in which case I think it is beyond my knowledge to repair it.
baachitraka_.
There are two options.
- Either get a new OM-2sp or
- Send her for CLA
I personally will go with second option, after that you need not worry for next 10 years.
My 2cents.

andre_custodio
Thanks for the help Mohindar, I think I'll get her sent away for CLA. The person I bought the camera off anyway is offering to take it to a repair shop to fix it if I send it back to him.
john_hermanson2
All 2S suffer from this possible problem. IMO you are better off getting the body fixed (by anyone who's trained, not necessarily me) , than buying another used 30 year old body that was made exactly the same way on the cusp of exactly the same problem.
