  1. Hi there, just wondered if someone can give me a litttle advice regarding my Olympus OM2n not working, in that it seems to have have packed up completly. I say that because despite working OK up untill rcently and despite having put in new batterries, the shutter doesn't fire and/or I can't wind the film on. I have tried the batttery check and reset but again there is no response, the camera just seems comoletly dead. any advice would bee greatly appreciated..

  2. Batteries need to be brand new, fresh. I've seen several examples purchased new from a store not be new enough.
  3. Does it work in bulb mode? I don't have mine handy but supposedly they should work in Bulb without a battery. The shutter is also supposed to fire with a dead battery if you're holding the switch at the battery check position.

If you can get the shutter to fire in those cases, then at least you know the shutter is probably OK. Do you have a multi-meter so you can make sure the new batteries are OK?

I know OM-1n's had a common problem with the battery wire corroding and breaking close to the battery holder. If you can solder it's not that hard to repair assuming the wire isn't completely shot. I have not yet had the bottom off of my 2n, which I just got a few weeks ago. On the 1n it's pretty easy to spot.
  4. Just confirmed after trying it on my 2n, the shutter should fire in bulb mode without batteries and you can also advance the film. The same is true if you hold the switch in the battery check position. The shutter will fire and the film can be advanced. What is not clear is what speed the shutter is firing at in "battery check mode". I've heard anywhere from 1/60 to 1/750.

Not sure that really helps you.
