Olympus E-20

Recommended Posts

No experience of the E20 but I had an E10, which is virtually the same.
It is a very capable camera with excellent lens and build quality. Very slow to power up and very limited buffer memory, also autofocus would not work for some reason if previous shots were in the process of being written.
Overall, a greatly under-rated camera IMO but it has 1 big problem - a small sensor, which is a serious limit to quality.

I have been using an E-20 since last Christmas. It's heavy, doesn't have a lot of the extra features (like shooting movies), and the lens only zooms from 35-140mm (equiv). but what it does, it does superbly. The lens is great, as is the viewfinder. The controls are very well thought out, and well placed. 5 megapixels is enough for sharp 12x16 prints. In fact, the images remind me of the look of Kodachrome shot with a Leica Elmar lens. It's like an old Speed Graphic -- it just works and works.
0064Ej-14575184.jpg.07944e07e523cee307a2bab6ca0b3610.jpg

Excellent lens, relatively (compare to Nikon or Canon) cheap line of extra attachment lenses. Most photos in my portfolio are taken with this camera (or E-10 too) - you can see everything from 9mm to 800mm and up to 24X macros. I am very pleased. Neg slow buffer, problems with autofocus when very dark, noise on high ISO settings. Excellent external flash FL-40 is optional.
