timberwolf1
What particular 'old fashioned customs' have you photographed at weddings? Do you know the history behind the formation of this custom?
fotografz
Because Detroit was a big immigrant destination due to the car factories providing a good income for unskilled labor, there is an enormously wide variety of ethnic diversity here. The largest Arabic community outside of the middle east, a huge population of Polish, Ukrainian and other Slavic Americans, One of the largest Jewish populations in the midwest, a large Greek population, and so on. Each has it's own customs and rituals which makes wedding work here immensely interesting. As strange as it sounds, Michigan is one of the largest horse owning states in the US. So, I have had to shoot weddings performed on horseback (not me, the wedding party). These folks are dead serious about it also. Here is an example of a Western Wedding where the Bride's riding outfit was made from an authentic 1880's pattern, and the seamstress hunted down a material that was available then, and still being made now !!! When the ceremony was complete, the whole wedding party rode off into the sunset ; -)<div></div>
