francois_bourgeot
Hi all, When using the 550EX off shoe (using Hot shoe adapter 3, connecting cord 60 and off-camera shoe adapter OA-2)the flash switch to TTL, and it seems that it's not possible to compensate for the flash exposure anymore. Do I need to use the flash exposure compensation on the camera itself when the flash is off shoe? But I thought that the flash exposure compensation set on the flash unit overrides the one set with the camera... So I am a bit confused here.. NK Guy
The hot shoe adapter and connecting cords do not support anything other than plain TTL. This means you lose a lot of other functionality, such as E-TTL, second-curtain sync and so on. I would have thought that manual override of FEC on the flash unit itself should have worked, but I've never tried this combination.
http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/index3.html#cords
francois_bourgeot
I am just adding some precision to my question: What I meant in my first post is that when the flash is mounted off shoe, the FEC on the flash seems to be disabled (while pressing the sel/set button, nothing happens. The button works just fine when mounted on the camera hot shoe ie. in ETTL mode). So THE big question is: What do I need to do if I want to use the flah off shoe and still be able to do some flash espo. compensation? francois_bourgeot
Thanks for your answer (very interesting link...), so apparently the sheapest way to preserve all flash functions is the Off Camera Shoe Cord 2. Thanks you
