j.e.t
Once again, I am blatantly reminded of how PC-centric our society is! I am in the process of researching good accounting software and have found that QB Pro 6 for Macs is pretty miserable, according to many reviews I've read on the Internet that is. I am starting in wedding photography and need a good software program for Macs that can handle all accounting for a financially sound small business. For all Mac users out there (if there are any left!!!) please advise on what you use, what works, what doesn't. I've heard that Quicken is more focused on personal finance tracking, but if there are photographers out there who have had great experiences using Quicken, I may have to say myself a $100 and get that instead! Please advise. Thank you!
denis_pleic
You could always try FileMaker - I use the PC version, although it's a database program which originated on Mac. I've developed a full-blown small business database which covers my needs perfectly. I'm sure you could find ready-made (shareware, etc.) solutions done in FileMaker to suit your needs perfectly. Try www.filemaker.com and continue your serch from there - check out their "Links" section, FileMaker user groups, etc. Regards, Denis

ray
I use MYOB AccountEdge to run my business. I really have no complaints. My biggest fear was not being able to give my accountant the QuickBooks database for taxes, but I find that running a simple set of reports does the trick just as well. AccountEdge also handles everything from CC payment to payroll. The flexible reports are also excellent. http://www.myob.com/us/ They also have a slimmed down version called FirstEdge, but I think if you are serious about running a business you might as well get AccountEdge. It comes with a built-in chart of accounts for studio photographers. I just tweaked that for my wedding business.

dai_hunter
There may be a solution you are overlooking IF you are seeing with envy the range of PC applications for which there is no Mac equiv...and just wish there was a way to... Have a look at VirtualPC for the Mac - to run PC apps on Machttp://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=virtualpc
ellis_vener_photography
Try http://www.blinkbid.com I haven't tried it (beyond looking at it for a possible magazine review) as we use Inview/Stockview from www.hindsightltd.com for this purpose, but it looks very good. william_foster
Let me preface by saying that I am a die hard Mac user. In fact, I worked at Intel as a corporate trainer for a bunch of years and never told a soul that I didn't have a PC at home. Until, I left when I turned in my work laptop. I decided that they weren't so bad and that my Mac could share some desk space. Now, for my business, on my desk is an iMac and a Dell Laptop. The Mac is used for what it does best...graphics, art, etc. The PC is used for what it does best. I never thought I would hear myself say that, but it's true that the PC has cornered the market on business related software. There is a solution out there though, for Mac users. Try Tom Zimberoff's PhotoByte. You'll still need the actual accounting software (like quickbooks) to accompany it, but PB does all the invoicing, accts receivable, sales reports, etc. Plus, it's free! paradigm-photo-adam
<p>Hmm... I think we use Quick Books for our business, but for better advice go to <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com">www.versiontracker.com</a> or <a href="http://www.macupdate.com">www.macupdate.com</a> and search for "accounting"<br> <br> I don't know which ones are good for photography or a photo business, but you should be able to find a couple with some solid user reviews behind them.<br> <br> Adam<br> <a href="http://www.paradigmprint.com/corporate-marketing-planning/ portfolio/commercial-photography/index.html">Paradigm Digital Photography</a><br> <a href="http://www.paradigmprint.com/corporate-marketing-planning/ portfolio/web-site-consulting/index.html">Paradigm Web Site Design</a><br> <a href="http://www.paradigmhost.com/">Paradigm Hosting</a></p>
