nvanzanten
OK, this has been addressed before and lots of sources say "no" to using a non-AI on my D200. Some actually (Rockwell) says they won't even mount, others (White) says damage will result. Well, I don't get it. I have a 24mm Nikkor NC f2.8 thats does mount and works fine in manual mode. What am I risking here? What kind of damage may result?
gary_watson
Either it's been Ai'd or your displacing(and possibly bending)the camera's Ai tab, which will eventually break, leaving you meter-less. Any body with an Ai tab will cause problems--AFS-only bodies without a tab don't with NAI lenses.
Michael R Freeman

"What am I risking here? Your 24mm Nikkor N-C may just barely touch the tab, while a 50mm Nikkor H-C for instance might jam on it so hard that the aperture ring won't even turn. Either way, if you don't know what to look for, you're playing with fire.

nvanzanten
Thanks Gary and Michael.
That was very helpful, now that I know what I am looking at I don' see that any of my lenses' ai tabs are stressed, but risking the meter that is just way too serious. I will have those lenses converted.
