al_kaplan1
I'd like to thank everyone who called me since Wilma's visit to South Florida. Both my cell service and land line stayed operational the entire time. I think I've gotten caught up on replying to my emails also. The power finally came back on at 1:30 this afternoon. In the morning a tree trimming crew from Nova Scotia had come through the neighborhood followed a short while later by by a bunch of guys from Texas New Mexico Power. Their lead truck was flying a big Texas flag. For the past week North Miami's own Public Works and Parks Departments have been clearing the downed trees blocking roads, along with folks here from Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina and elsewhere, but those were only the ones working my immediate neighborhood. I had a couple of small trees down in my yard along with a lot of branches, but no major damage to the house. I've shot about 10 rolls of B&W since the hurricane hit. My first inclination after the storm was that I should use this as an opportunity to learn how to opperate my new Casio Exilim Zoom digital camera that some kind person gave me a few months back. By candlelight I opened the box, took out the instruction booklet, and read how to put the camera in the "docking station", I think they called it, and then plug it in to charge the batteries... So much for that plan! I had half a dozen rolls of HP5 Plus and a bunch of Tri-X on hand. After I get caught up on grocery shopping, do some laundry, and take a long HOT shower I guess I'll start souping some of that film.

gerry_szarek
Welcome back, I think you should move to New England, we only get cold and snow here, the last big hurricane was in 38. BTW if you decide to stay down south do yourself a favor and get a 6Kw generator! Maybe you can scan some negatives and post some hurricane pictures in a couple of days? michael s.
Out of sight, out of mind. Your name barely surfaced, Al -:) Not to suggest a game of "can you top this" (perish the thought), but if you have a moment, Dennis has posted some Katrina photos in a few threads under his name. Well worth a look.
todd frederick
Al, Good to hear from you. Try getting the digital going. You might find that to be a fun camera to play with along with your Leicas.
doug herr
Good to see you back on line, Al. Thanks to the folks from Nova Scotia, Texas, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina and elsewhere who have been and are continuing to restore normal conditions to Florida. WM
No rest for the wicked Al, get those TriX and HP5 souped let the show begin ! Glad you're back in action and all is well, in spite of all that chaos going on......
michael s.
True, Al -- you didn't miss much. Leica introduced a digital M (which runs on AA batteries or a crank, just like my camping radio). They received 4.2 million orders for it, and promptly became the target of a hostile takeover fight between Verizon Wireless and Ralph Lauren. Other than that, there's really nothing to report. bernard_frank
Welcome back, Al. Now, seriously, how more "user" has your M3 gotten because of the hurricane?
al_kaplan1
My ancient beat-to-crap looking double stroke converted to single M3 is history. I got a deal a few years ago that included a really clean M3 body and sold the old one. I mostly shot Wilma pix with my CL with the 40 Summicron and the Bessa L with the 15 Heliar. I did a few with an M2 with a 21/3.4 S.A. and 35/2 Summicron. The CL is starting to look properly grungy and the Bessa L is showing white plastic through the black finish along the edges and at the corners but it just keeps clicking away! al_kaplan1
I'm working on it, Todd! At least now I have hot water again. It's really hard to get nice steamy photos with cold water. Then as soon as I get the 15mm Heliar adapted to fit on the Nikonos body I guess I'll start shooting some test shots of all the sexy young girls that have been begging me to be in the shower pix with me.
