Hi all! I have changed my pic in the latest moment. Too much sad. This also comes from the fire, now controlled, that destroyed one of few little green areas that remains around the town... most of them has been already eated by bricks and concrete. Great.
This thistle was close to the fire, but it didn`t even touch them; the extreme heat lighted its flowers, that were burned, but not the stems... like an infernal candelstick. Now, that humid charcoal revolting smell, coming from burned holm hoaks and scrubland plants... a nice flat, black landscape! =(

Taken with my D700 @ ISO560 + 50AFS, 14bit RAW, 1/60sec. - f5.6, all camera tricks off except Auto-ISO feature (hence the odd ISO number).

Please feel free to post your favourite pic of the week taken with Nikon gear... Thanks.

00UUyg-172993584.jpg.0aaeefc077389be6c2eddd5d1f197e65.jpg

Happy WedNEsDA, Nikon afficionados!

This shot was taken last weekend at Barkers National Park, here on Grand Cayman, an area of mangrove swamp, deserted beaches, sand dunes and car-swallowing potholes.

This is just a grab-shot from my first day out shooting with my new (to me) 200mm AF Micro - I haven't gotten around to going through the folder in detail yet. On a brief inspection it seems at least as sharp as the 105mm VR, and 55mm Ai-s, and not far behind the 85mm PC.

D300 at ISO 200 with 200mm f4 AF micro at 1/640 sec and f8. Tripod mounted, no flash

Hi guys, it's Wednesday again!
Here is my contribution this week - I have not been much out shooting, so I thought I'd present an image from the latest dance competition. Not at all the best pic, but for reasons explained in last week's thread, it has to be so.
@Joseph Leotta: Really looking forward to see your pic today! :)

00UUyk-172993684.thumb.jpg.03dc9b1dcd587dc7ade440566a1a635e.jpg

Hooray, it's wednesday!
Early wednesday morning anyway... Already some great pictures up, but I'll reserve any comments for later when there is more to admire!
Finally after a few weeks of very little photography I've been out again with my full kit, there was a powerboat race where I live, which meant loud and spectular boats at pretty insane speeds pretty close to the city centre. Quite cool, although the weather wasn't top.
For the first time in some 2 months, I got to spent some real quality time with my AF-S 300 f/4 again - gosh how I love that lens. It was also the very first time I had a good oppurtunity to see the D300's AF perform its real tricks - AF tracking with 21-pts. The AF was impressive (to me at least), it could keep up with the boats pulling away with ease. Out of some 450 pictures, 2 were out of focus - the D300 just never stops to amaze.

Looks like we're off to a great start.
Well, I finally got out to shoot some wildlife, as in birds, for the first time in well over two months this last Saturday. So this week I'm going back to my first passion - wildlife / birds.
So this week I'm sharing a Green Heron (or as we call them "Greenies") on the hunt. I so love how this little bird is so well camouflaged in it's coloring for it's environment.
Shot with the D300 & the Sigmonster 300-800mm at 800mm, ISO 400, 1/1250s, -0.3 EV, at f/8 A Mode Matrix metering all EXIFs embedded. Slight crop. Edited in between NX2 & CS3.
I hope you will enjoy & I can't wait to see what this thread will offer this week.
Lil :-)

Hello all, good morning
Finally a picture from this week! Actually, from last night's dinner. My wife cooked her first sushi meal and it was great. Just watched how to do it in YouYube and voilá! homemade, tasty sushi.
I also received a mint 60mm f/2.8 micro that I found for a bargain and had to play with it! =)
Both taken with a D700 and the 60mm f/2.8. Left picture: flash camera left @ 1/4 power on a stand through an umbrella. Right picture: flash bounced off ceiling @ 1/2 power.
As a side note, I tried Wasabi for the first time and I gotta tell'ya, it's almost as hot as my wife! :)

Off to a great running start. The photos are so beautiful, I just love the Wednesday Shoot and I usually get in near the end of it.
Jose , beautiful Fall coloring with the thistle.
Chris , what a beautiful macro. The colors are stunning.
All so far are a real tribute to Jose for starting this thread ...... Thank You. I can hardly wait for all the others to start posting their Wednesday Shots .
I haven't taken this kind of a shot yet so in my mind I really didn't know what I wanted to see. I decided to just let it take itself and do nothing to it other than resize. He stayed fishing until around 9 am
It is a Lone canoe on Lake Lemon, Indiana taken @ 5:28am with my Nikon D90, Sigma 70-200 @ 200mm, f 2.8, 1/160, ISO 200. On Tripod
It was so quiet and peaceful.

Grounded old boats, Black Sea coast.

@ Ian: thanks for your comment from last week, indeed colors turned muted and pretty unusual, it was the film I used, a Kodak consumer film I bought locally, also the light was pretty strange, one of those very hot and humid days in the proximity of the coast. The place was pretty interesting, there was the dhow but we also found three very nice old classic cars abandoned in what seemed to be a warehouse yard.

I wish an enjoyable day to all WedNEsDAY people, and warm regards to Lil, she is great indeed with her comments and the way she finds a good word for almost every single poster on this thread

00UUzP-172999784.jpg.df1d4a019ded7be863573a97b3337e1e.jpg

Firstly, thank you to those who commented on my photograph last week. I just think it is great that this thread is open to everybody - no matter where in the world they live - and I really do think it is one of the best on the net. I think it shows how passionate Nikon photographers are about their photography - I know it certainly makes me proud to be a Nikon user.

For my photo this week I present an early morning coatal scene. The air was clear and the smell of the sea was really invigorating. I saw these two people on the beach also enjoying the moment. I find that the sea air blows many cares away. It was taken at West Bay, Dorset.

00UUzd-173003584.JPG.e1ea89060cbdc8aa506e5b0d23fe3480.JPG

The start of another interesting Wednesday. This was taken just in front of Canterbury Cathederal and this guy stood out against the tourist groups. I've been reading 'The Negative' and can't get the zone system out of my head !
Shot with camera set to monochrome, recording .tiff files.

00UUzo-173005684.jpg.955d4060d06055c3a09b853e16cdac32.jpg

Hi everybody,
Every week it seems to get harder to find a picture for this thread to try and follow the high level of pictures from everybody.
This week I have a picture I took of two friends of mine. For the weekend we went to my brother in germany and we went to a luge tobogganing track if that is the right name for it. We had a lot of fun there, they went lugeing down and me taking pictures. My little niece did not always look super happy going down, maybe a bit too fast for her. One of my favourites was this picture.
Taken with the D90 and 80-200mm @ F3.3 1/500s 200mm iso 200.

00UV0C-173011784.thumb.jpg.ddf49f84c4a6ebc4faa67ffe4519d13c.jpg

My picture this week is taken a couple of months ago. It was taken at the Arctic Circle. We had walked a few kilometers from the road up into the mountains and set up camp just a kilometer or two from the Swedish border. I woke up at about 3 in the morning and went outside to get som photos of the sun coming up. This stack of stones (called a "varde") was built by my son and I the evening before :-)
D300 with nikkor 10-24 @12mm. ISO 200, 1/80s, f11.

00UV0H-173011984.jpg.a7f1adca75b1d599ea8b9601c28e0e61.jpg
