Hi, I`m sorry it`s not wednesday yet, I`m away without internet conection... I know I can post today, tomorrow... who knows? I hope not to disturb anybody.

I must admit that after looking this seagulls, my first thought was "hey, this must be my first bird shot here... ", sadly I don`t have my 300 with me, the longest lens I took for this trip is the 105VR.

I`m surprised with the focus track ability of the 105VR + D700. I never shot birds, and it works great (I`m not an expert). 14bit RAW, 200ISO, 1/1000sec. - f5.6.

Please, feel free to post your Nikon pic of the week if you like. I`ll try to check the thread in one or two days. Thanks all.

00U805-161679584.jpg.cad34122dabeaa63070ff189a50de68e.jpg

More of a snapshot than anything this week, but my wife's favorite of the week. Here's my permanent model frustrated with more posing. I put the camera on the floor a couple feet in front of her, in program mode, and let it do its thing.

00U80D-161681584.jpg.3dc8453cedb6912e99645dfd19d49472.jpg

okay, well maybe it's wednesday somewhere in the world
i shot the lakefest in oakland this year and got a bunch of pics i really like. the 12-24 got a lot of use and i realized the d80 might be better for vivid colors than the d300--the reds really pop straight out of the camera.
anyway, here's a pic...

00U80L-161685684.jpg.c490334017028cf372a6b55d1bf28db1.jpg

Wednesday is just 50min old here in Norway, and already this thread is up and running! Here is my contribution this week. Summer has been wet and cold this year, but one night during our vacation on the Swedish West Coast, we managed to get some nice weather.

I'm really looking forward to this week's contributions. Keep 'em coming!

00U80R-161685884.jpg.3449314153c6580294924ad9193de618.jpg

Well, it isn't Wednesday here yet - more than 7 hours away in fact. Haven't really thought about which image to present this time, so I go with another shot from the San Diego Zoo of two sunbear cubs playing it rough, taken with the D300 and 80-400 VR at 400mm, 1/160s, f/5.6, ISO1600, +2/3 EV.

00U81b-161699584.jpg.599d46139deee696c7dc28751ec29c69.jpg

Oh goodie...Wednesday came a little early! I LOVE seeing what everyone shot during the week. Chris Court inspired me to try dragonflies, and while I don't have a macro lens or his skills, here's one of mine I caught this week (little buggers are hard to photograph!):

Oh my God!! Finally a Wednesday pic that corresponds with Wednesday here in Australia... and doesn't wait for the slow parts of the world to catch up with us... and I'm not even ready for it :-)

Ha! Will post later on when I get my act together but can I say that the early start has not diminished the quality so-far. Joes (great capture), Neil (nice mood and evokes memories of my own time there), Dariusz (that is some fog!), and Dieter (great fun moment) are my early faves.

The best thing about this time of year (north of the equator, anyway) is that the evening light lasts long enough to get in more than a moment's shooting. I'm revisiting some shots from a summer portrait session to work on my black and white conversion technique. It's really instructive to "re-see" the work from that perspective. Happy early (!) Wednesday, all - Jose, you caught me off guard!

00U82f-161711584.thumb.jpg.fb78c6ba878ad685b36376711e69abb9.jpg

Whoa, surprise!!

Don't have much recent of note to hand, so here is a shot from a couple of years back... my excuse is that I was just reworking it earlier today, if that counts?

Unfortunately, this is another case where Photoshop's "save for web" command seems to have sucked all the life out of the shot. Ah well.

It's an HDR, shot with a D200 and 18-70 lens.

00U83C-161717684.jpg.93c0923be7b0d41928c42f1a3b16cd79.jpg

Greetings everyone!

WeDNeSDaY again? Every week goes so fast!

Well, My shot was taken on Monday. It's firework season here in Japan and one thing I can tell you is that Japanese really know how to display their fireworks. This was taking during the Summer festival in my neighbor city of Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture. According to them it's the largest firework display in Japan. The display last 1 hour and 45 minutes. They launch over 20,000 of them. The one I am showing is the second largest. IT's called "san-jaku-dama" which refers to the size. It's 90 cm in diameter, goes 600 meter in the air and opens 650 meters wide. This shot is full frame at 11 mm and I am 2 kilometers away. I took another shot with my 17-55 at 17 mm but it didn't fit in the frame.

Jose... You couldn't sleep? It's just 10 am here in Japan!

Plenty of life left in that HDR, Chris . Arash , don't tell me this is a wild hawk? 70mm? You got some special relation with that bird? Nice gull, Jose - pretty close too. Neil , like the mood you captured. Robert , gorgeous portrait. Rene' , would be nice if there was something in the image that allowed to gauge the size of that firework.
