A good Wednesday to you, Nikonistas. As I post this at midnight, it's the winter solstice here in the northern hemisphere. Longest night of the year, and a chance to reflect on our planet's tilted axis and all of the variety to which that gives rise in our climate, flora, fauna, and photographic opportunities. The scene below is a peek through the woods, shot less than an hour ago. Low clouds on this long night are glowing with the light of Washington DC, just a dozen or two miles away. We now light our way through every night, but I can see why this annual seasonal turning point has been ritually noted for thousands of years. What are you and your Nikon gear doing with the short daylight? Share a photo!

00XtcJ-313571584.jpg.b38020934d876059da2b7713d99064e8.jpg

Greetings Nikon Friends...Today is the first day of winter and it was 84-degrees where I live (Dallas, Texas). My image this week is TREE SANTA and was taken a couple of days ago in my neighborhood. One PN wag suggested I should use this for my bio picture. LOL. Wishing everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

00XtcM-313575584.jpg.5c88d40b4a0f8bfd4b5f075631f724fe.jpg

My final sports photo for 2010 is a twin pack. Two wickets off the last two balls of the innings ... the bowler will have to wait until next year to attempt the "hat-trick" (three wickets in three balls). Two months to think about the next delivery!

Happy Wednesday everyone!
Thank you to Rick and Jeff for you kind words!
I was drawn to the shutters on the half-wall between the restaurant and the bar area. We were later told that they came from the original home that sat on this location. Their colors and textures were wonderful.
Have a wonderful Holiday Week.

00XtcR-313577684.jpg.e778244350dc6625fbb690dbd5f20952.jpg

Happy Holidays to all! I live about 550 miles south of Bill Boyd in the lower tip of Texas, and you would never know it's December here. (87F/35.5C today) Without colder temps, the bugs are still around, including the pesky mosquitoes. D90/Sigma 150mm/Sigma 1.4 teleconverter@ 1/250, f/11, ISO 640. I hope everyone has a great holiday! Looking forward to seeing everyone's photos. :)

Matt, thanks. I enjoy seeing your dog photos here. And the hour a day when I take my golden retriever and my camera for a walk in the local forest -- yes, I live a two minute drive away from a real forest where dogs can be off leash -- is the best hour of my day.

Hello everyone.
Last night I woke up around 1:30 AM ( ET ) to prepare myself for this shot. I could not resist it and I could not miss it. It was very cold outside ( around 45 ) and around 2:30, 11 minutes before the Eclipse, I went outside and I took this shot. Did what I could but of course this lens is not the best for this kind of shots, nevertheless, I did capture a great moment, something that will not occur again till 2029 ( Eclipse during winter time according to Nasa ).

Merry Christmas to all of you !!
