Important: please keep your image under 700 pixels wide for in-line viewing, and please keep the FILE SIZE UNDER 300kb. Note that this includes photos hosted off-site (at Flickr, Photobucket, your own site, etc). Are you new to this thread? The general guidelines for these Wednesday threads are right here. Remember: only one image each week!A happy Nikon Wednesday to you, everyone. All the sudden we've got a 6F windchill outside, which makes doing some inside chores seem like a really good idea. But nothing helps me procrastinate on fixing that toilet that won't stop running better than deciding I have to photograph something. So, that's right folks - it's the amazing Fluidmaster S2DBL Water Saving Dual Flush Valve System (it actually works pretty well ... I did get around to actually installing it). Used your Nikon gear to shoot when you should have been doing something else? Share a photo!
With the cold weather pummeling the South, I thought a little frost with fit right in. This was all that was left of a patch of Black-Eyed-Susans. They are very hardy and will be back next year but for now they are covered with a blanket of snow. This was a fun shot! Happy Wednesday and have a great week. Gej
Dear Nikon Users...My image is called Glory Window. These are stained glass windows in a 60-foot spiral ceiling at Thanksgiving Square Chapel in Dallas, Texas.
First snow .. and not really cold yet. It would help if I didn't need glasses myself to see where I set my camera, in this case somehow to ISO 2200 on a bright afternoon (not me bright, the lighting) Anyway, the prints looked good.
This shot was taken at a Dancing competition at my school. The kids aren't posing as they are about to reform the circle of the Tango. Shot with Nikon D300 with Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 w/ SB900.
D300 with 105mm AIS Nikkor. These old MF lenses, besides being super sharp on digital cameras, allow you to easily manual focus through the foreground to the subject in the background.
On a short drive around Bakersfield, CA tonight we found a really nicely decorated church. They had a big fountain out in front, surrounded by trees wrapped in christmas lights. So, of course, we had to skate it. My friend Garrick did a manual (balancing on just the back wheels) across the fountain.
In early and I can already see this will be a great Wednesday. @Bill J Boyd - I just love that photo of yours "Glory Window" I will be coming back later to look at all of the entries. Mine today is that of a Bluegrass/Gospel Band local here to the Benton area. A Family band that is one of my favorites. This photo was from a concert on Dec 3rd @ the KY Opry. I used my Nikon D90, Sigma 70-200 @ 70mm, f5.6, i/125, iso 2000. Hope that you enjoy it. phil b benton, ky
WedNEsDAy PiC #50 Out caught – off a no-ball – so not out! (two images ⅛ sec apart). Camera: Nikon D300 Lens: AF-S VR II Zoom-Nikkor 70-200 mm f/2.8G IF-ED + TC-20E III Settings: 240 mm, 1/1000 sec, f/5.6 and ISO 200 (AP, monopod, UV filter)
I headed out to the Lake District last weekend hoping to capture the landscape covered in snow. Unfortunately, the rise in temperature and the rain washed away the snow by the time I decided to head out on Saturday morning to take a few photos. Here's a picture by one of the many jetties at Ullswater.
Happy Wednesday. My contribution this week is of Australian band Karnivool during their first concert in Switzerland. And what a great show it was! Nikon D700 at ISO 5000, 14-24/2.8, 1/100s @ f/2.8, RAW converted in Adobe Lightroom 3.
Looking forward to yet another great WedNesDay. Trying to find the beauty in this very cold weather Have a nice week.
Here's my pic from yesterdays walk in the middle of lab day. Frosty and rusty chains that I found nearby the university.
Wow, great stuff already! Took the grandchildren to a local educational farm last month. Not very many real farms left by us any more, unfortunately. Decided to take my newly purchased used 28-105 lens to see how well it did. Although this guy (gal?) let me get fairly close, I was still being checked out as some kind of suspicious character.
Went for a walk in Downtown Austin, when the stairs on the side of the Convention Center caught my eye. Shot through a grate to get at the stairs behind. Love my 70-300mm VR. It's a surprisingly sharp lens - even when focused manually. Nikon D40, 70-300mm VR @ 70mm, 1/320s, f/8 and ISO 200
Hello Everyone, Nice pics so far. During my holiday trip to Lake Tahoe couple of weeks back shot this one. D5000, f11,1/400,38mm, ISO 800 Thanks, Rj
This photograph was taken in a seashore where water sports are very popular. I had taken this shot and my focus was these young tourists who were doing para gliding.
The silliest&nastiest urban furnishing ever... we have suffered once again another urban furnishing replacement (it happens every few years, you know we`re millionaries, of course!), this time with such stupid things suposed to be benchs for humans, not only useless but also even dangerous for elderly people, cyclists, childrens, etc. I`d say the overall design is typical of a school teenager verging fail; same for bollards, bike holders, etc. I cannot believe such big (and costly) mistake. What a huge waste of noble materials like cast iron, good wood and pure granite... Grrrrrrrrr!
Robert: I was trying to decide whether to take a recent photo or pull up an oldie. Thanks. This was taken when the Vancouver BC tourism board decided to set up shop out here. D200 • ISO 640 • 18-135/3.5-5.6 IF-ED @ 48mm • ƒ7.1 • 1/2500sec.
I finally gave in to my NAS last Friday and bought myself a combined birthday (a loong time ago, but I had no presents) and christmas gift: a Nikkor 10-24 f/3.5-4.5 AF-S DX. On my D60, it's not as "heavy" as I was expecting, and it makes for an incredibly fun walkaround lens. It forces me to see things in a completely different way here around London. Here's one of the first pictures, in Shad Thames (near Tower Bridge).
Happy Wednesday! Lovely photos so far! I was surprised to find a mantidfly early Sunday morning. It was cool, so was able to get off a few shots before it flew away. Very interesting bugs to me. D90/Sigma 150@1/60, f/13, ISO 400.
Downtown development of Saigon. The front hotel 100 years old, Parkson department store about 10 years and the blue building behind a combined department store, office and apartment build from 2010. Soon no old buildings from the French area are left.
This is a Leica IIIc, manufactured in 1946, which as you can see is molting. I made the picture to help the nice people at cameraleather.com supply the right recovering kit. D700, 85mm f/2.8 PC lens, ISO 200, 1/200 @ f/13, strobe bounced from ceiling and white fill card. I wonder how my D700 will be faring in 2073, when it's 64 years old.
Good cold morn. Its 39 here in Florida. Very nice pics so far. My favorite so far are Jeannean, Hamish, Juho, Jens, Greg, Gej, Matt, Aquinaldo and all the rest of them. I had the opportunity to photograph this 1934 Packard yesterday. Had to use my Old 105 2.8 for this one. What a beautiful car. This one is almost perfect. A Resto Mod that is very drivable. Power windows,CD player, 509 V8 and much more. Nikon D3, Nikon 105 2.8 AIS, 1/80 sec, F /5.6, EC +0.7 step
Happy Wednesday.... Hamish, so far my absolute fav.... After the snow last week now rain in the North East, lakes frozen now are open again, 50ºF difference within a week... crazy.... so here is the now unfrozen lake in its prior state something like 14 days ago....
Hi All, Favorites so far: Bill Boyd Hamish G. Aguinaldo Alex Z. Benjamin S. I haven't been taking pics lately. Bit of a slump I guess. This one is from a few month ago. The background color is from Arkansas Amsonia. Doug
I went for a walk the other afternoon in our backyard orchard and photoed this apple. It was frozen solid, but still pretty to photograph. I call it 'The Last Hurrah' and it will be part of my daughter's teacher's holiday gift this year~ printed and framed and what I think is appropriate Happy Wednesday all...stay warm.
Jose...thanks for comments on Glory Window. I hand-held the shot, but was laying flat on my back looking up at the ceiling when I took it.
Bill Boyd, I checked the EXIF data earlier. They are showing ISO 100, f5.6, and 1/10 sec. I concluded that you must be using a tripod; that conclusion was totally wrong. I hope you get to shoot that again with a tripod with either a cable release or shutter delay. I am quite sure that will make a difference at 1/10 sec. My image this week was captured with the new D7000 on a 500mm/f4 AF-S @ ISO 200 (one stop above the base ISO), wide open at f4 and 1//1250 sec.
Hamish, that is a wonderfully composed shot!! With it being so cold here, I feel the need for something a bit warmer....
Hi everyone, love Wednesday with all your photos. Mine was taken at our local Insectarium in the butterfly garden. D300 105mm micro f/18 shutter 1/200
Waiting for the Holiday boat parade on the intercoastal waterway in Ft. Lauderdale. Soon the tranquility of this place will explode into noises from bands, fireworks etc. etc. Well worth it to realize the value of silence. Anyways......This was on a D90, Nikkor 35mm f2 @ ISO 200, f8, 1sec, Matrix, multipoint focus. Did I leave out anything?? Oh yea Aperture 3.1 converted NEF to jpg. I think LR3 is much better.
Top of the morning to all of you, good capturers! Here is mine from last month's natural light night-life test photography. Shot with--- D300s Nikkor 50mm f/1.7 @ 50mm f/2.2 EV +3 ISO [I don't remember and recorded but I am sure it was in the high end] and it was hand-held. p.s. I didn't do the painting in the photo.
Martha, your picture of the rhinoceros made me laugh! What a great capture! My Wednesdays at the zoo are over until next Fall so my children and I visited the city aquarium last Wednesday. I'm always struck by the beauty of piranhas. I expect them to look like horrible monsters, but instead they flash with color as they swim around their tank.
Howdy, Nikon folk! Beautiful as always! This little friend was visiting us on a weekend. Instead of taking pics or watching TV, she rather took us for a walk.
The creature moved forward right when I pressed the shutter. Fortunately it did not hide its head out of the frame. Yes, looks I should be doing something else than taking this kind of boring picture...
Hello Fellow Nikonians ! Today I crossed the river Tagus to have lunch at a lovely fish restaurant at Trafaria, in front of Lisboa. Fish was very fresh, as usual, and the weather was fine, at 10 celsius, and as sunny as you can see. As most of you are already freezing and confined to indoor photos, I have decided to send you a warming picture. I hope you enjoy it !
Hello Nikonians!!! Here is a pix of Xmas deco at "Galleries Lafayette" in Paris... As always, some nice pix on here!!!!
Nikon D700 + nikon 105mm macro d. Keeping with my shapes posting here is another one. Hope you like it and great shots everyone.
Gej Jones lovely image of frost. Jeannean Buglady Where do you find these bugs? I think I'd move if they were all in my backyard! Very nice macro work. I always appreciate your photos. Tony Kukulich A lovely moment. Peter Giraudin What perspective! It looks you are flying right behind the F-16, but it must have been a LOW pass. Is the jet going vertical right over your head? My laptop was in the shop this week, so I have nothing to post. Merry Christmas everyone!
Thanks Jeff. I live by a canal (about 100yrds or so from my backyard) and there is all sorts of wildlife there (and surrounding area) from bugs, to birds, to racoons, etc. Not too many in my yard though. My two dogs chase them off...or eat them. : \
Lots of wonderful pics as usual. Some favorites: Hamish (wow!) Andrew Meszaros Tim Holte (another wow!—frightening power in those Great Lakes storms, as Gordon Lightfoot and Stan Rogers fans well know)
Nikon Buddies, Very wonderful shots, today, including the contributions from Paula W (I could watch those guys all day), Thomas G, Hamish G, Aguinaldo de P, Ian T, Tim H, Peter G, Martha B. For my post, we had an unusual intersection of outdoor blooms (begonias, I believe), Christmas manger scene, and snow. Only the manger scene remains...
I'm out shooting my last few rolls of Kodachrome today and this weekend. Brought along my D300 to shoot digital side by side. The photo below is of my favorite place to eat, the Roanoke Inn on Mercer Island, WA. They have a great menu and always have a great selection of beer, and a full bar as they are a tavern. Built in 1914 when ferry service from Seattle was established to the island. It's been owned and operated by the same family since 1953.
Some really nice photos as always. Peter - love that F16 shot - nice angle. My daughter decided to cut her own hair (my son did it at that age too) - took her to the hairdresser and this was the best they could do. But she looks cuter and older now - she's 3 1/2. Shot sitting on her bed beside a south facing window and a reflector to her left to fill - it's first time I've used a reflector - I thought it would be a good learning experience.
Navy honor guard in early morning light at Arlington National Cemetery. Nikon D300s with 70-200 at ISO 800 f2.8 at 1/8000 sec at 112mm focal length. A number of good images but the hippo made both Ines and I laugh when we saw it. Laughs are good. Thanks for sharing. Also like the stained glass church window spiral. Don Harper
Happy Nikon Wed everyone! As always, great contributions everyone! It's been a busy semester at work, so haven't had much time to put the Nikon gear to use. Today I probably really should have been working on wrapping up some end-of-semester items on my to-do list, but I decided to head out and bring the camera along on the daily dog run. Snapped a few just before the sun started to go down...it really was such a beautiful day (although a bit cold with the wind chill) but the dogs were happy to stay put for a few minutes for a couple of poses.
Happy late Wednesday everyone and kudos on many great shots. I should have been having a cocktail but wanted to get late day shots of some of the larger yachts departing the Ft Lauderdale Boat Show back in November. Clouds add to the drama of shot, taken with an 18-24mm wide angle lens.
Well, I always follow this thread and figured it is about time I post up something. D7000 with the 35F/1.8
I'm on holiday in Australia and the camera has been in constant use. Rather than the predictable, I thought I'd post this experiment; a reflection of my daughters looking at a painting in a shop window. They are there, honest!
Thank you to Rick, Benjamin, Doug, Keith, Kent and Jamie for your encouraging comments. You are all way too kind!
