Nikon Wednesday 2022: #7

Note:
In the interests of balancing performance and quality, the topic of image file size and dimensions as normally posted to this recurring thread is under discussion elsewhere in the Nikon forum (the topic is obvious when you look) - please check in there and comment if you have thoughts to share! That's the best place to talk about that particular topic. For now, consider keeping uploads no larger than 1600 pixels on the long side when it matters, and sticking with 1000 pixels when the image feels no pain at that resolution. On data size/compression, try to keep things under 1mb, shooting for 600kb when you can stop there. Note that
this includes photos hosted off-site
(at Flickr, Photobucket, your own site, etc). Are you
new to this thread?
The general guidelines for these Wednesday threads are
:
. For now, we're sticking with 1, 2, or 3 images per week as you see fit.

Thanks to Shun for launching Nikon Wednesday last week! Late on Tuesday night when I'd normally be doing that very thing, I was up late, on site with a truck load of gear, working my way through some creative and technical issues. We were documenting a class given by a company that provides live fire training with night vision equipment. In this shot, you can see the student (a US Marine moving on from the USMC to work for a federal protective agency) connecting a shot with a steel target about 75 yards away. In the pitch dark, the impacts produce some nice molten-copper-jacket fireworks. We rigged up some subtle LED lighting back on the line so I could use a fast lens on a Z body for some successful images in really challenging circumstances. This project would have been literally impossible not very long ago.

Our niece was born on the second day of the Chinese Lunar new year. While we mostly only use the Gregorian calendar, her birthday is always quite close to the Lunar new year. This year, my wife decided to celebrate our niece's birthday with her family and the new year with a Chinese treasure pot meal from a local restaurant. In the center of the pot are delicacies such as abalones and scallops, and there are also scrimps, chicken ....

The pot was placed on a transparent glass table; that is why you can also see the floor. I am aware that serious food photography is challenging. This is just a quick snap with a Nikon Z6ii + 24-70mm/f4 S and an SB-700 flash bouncing off the ceiling. The lens was zoomed to 57mm and f11 for more depth of field.

more shots of the rough legged hawk that has been hanging out near the Boundary Bay dyke here in Delta, BC. They were all taken consecutively in about 5 seconds as it took off form the top of a tree.. It is amazing how fast the bird rotates its big wings. D500 + 600mm AF-I + 1.4 TC
