Nikon Wednesday 2014: #6

<p>A week or so back, I attended the graduation ceremony for our county's Recruit Class 38, as a class of carefully chosen and freshly trained new recruits committed to putting their lives on the line as fire and rescue professionals. Of course, the venue's lighting was terrible!<br /><br />A veteran firefighter watches the proceedings from the back of the auditorium.</p><div></div>

<p>I'm proud to say that my niece's husband survived intense competition from many hundreds of applicants from around the country, and passed months of rigorous tests and physical challenges to be one of this county's newest career firefighters.</p><div></div>

<p>I went to my grandson's basketball game this past weekend. Taking advice I found from many of you, I shot at 1/400 at as wide an opening as I could. Since the lighting wasn't great, my D600 set the ISO at 3200 for most of the shots. Noise wasn't too bad as you can see.</p>

<p>I was really surprised how seriously these kids take playing. It was intense, almost like a pro game.</p><div></div>

<p>I've switched from Aperture 3 to Adobe creative cloud and I'm getting use to Lightroom, I think I'll like it, there is a learning curve however. Here is an image of our boxer Lilly.</p><div></div>

<p>This last weekend when I filled the bird feeder, the chickadees were so anxious to eat that they were landing as close as 2 feet in front of me. So, I switched to my 105 mm Micro Nikkor...</p><div></div>

<p>Kyle, I love the shot of your Lilly, so much like our own Lucy, similar face and the same chin-on-the-floor pose. I'll have to post a photo of her. <br>

My shot is of a local stream frozen over in the most recent cold wave, the Polar Vortex. A composite of 16 shots taken with D700 and Micro-Nikkor 55/3.5 (all I had with me at the time). Processed in Lightroom, converted in SFX and adjusted to emphasize the white snow and footprints. </p><div></div>
