Something tells me that there will be a few snow and ice photos this week. That was quite a system or two that blew across the continent over the last several days. Our first wave, here, was decent little glazing of ice. We've had snow since, but the ice is always more interesting to me, visually. So of course, a bit of ice, below. What'd you shoot? Share!

lex_jenkins
Checking out the slice, Fort Worth, December 9, 2013.

We got 2-3" of slice between Friday and Saturday - not snow, but a deceptive looking combination of sleet and ice, with a thin hard crust over pebbly white sleet. I decided to venture out Monday, cane in hand, 41 year-old Herman Survivors on feet (same pair I bought when I was 15). It was like walking on a slice of crunchy pie crust... if the filling was made of BB's. I figured the accumulation and soft grass and earth underneath would minimize any breakage. I set up the Nikon V1 for interval shooting to document the carnage. Unfortunately the shortest interval is 5 seconds, too much of a gap between shots for a proper animated GIF.

*

*

*
Nah, I didn't fall. Kent Shafer
I took this photo of our greyhounds a couple of years ago. Earl,* the brindle in front, passed on about a month ago, and his buddy, Mr. Blue, was devastated. Blue has been moping around, not eating, and sometimes howling in the night at the empty dog bed next to his.

(*They often called him <a href=" but his real name was Mr. Earl.)

Kent Shafer
So last Friday we adopted Shayna, shown below experiencing her first snow since arriving from the track in Florida, where she ran 160 races during her three-year career. She's a little younger than Mr. Blue and brimming over with personality and joie de vivre. While it's still early, indications are that she's going to be a good friend for Blue. And of course she's a fine new model for me.

thadley
Lex - I liked your 'fooling around' on 'slice'. I am sorry about Shiner being put down this week and just before Christmas makes it even more sad. Andy your image reminded me of the Invictus movie. This is a time of year that I am not really motivated to take shots so mine is an 'oldie' taken in Rawdon Quebec during an Autumn season (not this year).

PS It was not overcast as specified on the title.
