Hello Nikon people, and a good Wednesday to everyone. For the 50 million or so of you that were in the path of Hurricane Sandy, I hope this finds you well, and with all your gear above water.

A busy few days meant no prep time for a traditional product shoot on this just-finished jewelry - but it had to get recorded on the way out the door. So, two speedlights bounced off the ceiling, and I got what I got.

But for something different and more timely (but still very Nikon), I thought I'd see about using the little D3200's native video capability to shoot some quick scenes of the weather as Sandy wandered past the DC area. So for a minute or so of some rain and swaying trees, followed by a post-sunset tropical blow, <a href="

a link to a D3200 sequence (on YouTube - you can bump up to 1080HD if you want) showing how easy we had it compared to the folks up the shore and into New England. Good luck, flooded-out Northeastern Photo-Netters (even you Canon people!).

00aysX-501679584.jpg.14190b389652c95e9f1cb27f661e28ef.jpg

Matt,

happy to see you're safe. Your video is really nice and indeed, you seems to have had it easy compared to us New Yorkers. ;)

I took a short stroll in our neighborhood (Battery Park City in Manhattan) on Sunday, before everything shut down, and I came across these cute little people...

I checked on them today and they are still around and still fighting giant feet.

Cheers from flooded New York.

00aysb-501679784.jpg.a9cc1208aec722ad2c939f5b38c44638.jpg

Good Wednesday, everybody. Matt, a nice video. Glad that the electricity was out only for one night, it can get easily much worse in Washington suburbs.
The picture I am posting was taken a couple of weeks ago at the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in the White Mountains in California, not far from the border with Nevada (not far by California standards). These trees are the most long living organisms, the oldest ones being more than 4,000 years old. There are only two groves of these trees remaining, both in the White Mountains at more than 11,000 feet elevation. I post-processed the photo in b/w because I was shooting in the middle of the day (I did not want to drive there or back in the dark alone on the mountain road, last 12 miles unpaved), and in color it didn't look terribly attractive. I thought that b/w may be better.

Happy Nikon Wednesday to all! Came across some photogenic rowing scenes: MIT Crew heading out in the pre-dawn colorful light on the Charles with Boston skyline, etc. Gorgeous necklace, Matt! Amazingly ancient-looking anchor, Roger, as though you dragged it home from Monhegan Island. Spectacular image, Mikhail -- the luminous silver against that deep black pearl sky is stunning.

00ayss-501687584.jpg.47d77ca7024fbeae989e9f8893e67648.jpg
