mark_pierlot
Perhaps this is just the tip of the iceberg, and Nikon has been ripping off Canon for years.

That would explain why sample images and videos taken with Nikon and Canon cameras are so similar. ;-)

dave_s
Not the firt time a blunder like this has happened. About 25 years ago, Mamiya had an ad for one of their medium format cameras in one of the newsstand photo magazines. The ad was illustrated with some punchy color images, purportedly taken with that camera.

Except one or two of the transparencies had two little Hasselblad notches on the edge of the frame . . .
ed_v.
I heard stories years ago about PC manufacturers employing advertising agencies that ended up creating their ads using Mac computers. I suppose if the actual folks doing the work are 2 or 3 times removed from the requesting party anything can happen. They will just grab the right tool for the job. ;-)

There's no misleading representation about a sample being presented as in the other accounts discussed. It isn't analogous.
dan_south
I never saw that video. I have seen the Nikon D800 promo short featuring the motorcycle. It looks amazing and it was all shot on the D800. The ad agency must have goofed, if Nikon had D800 bodies lying around, they would not have shot with a 4-year-old Canon.
JDMvW
At one point, the agency doing ads for Microsoft Windows turned out to be using Macintoshes to make the ads.

Actually, this sort of thing happens fairly often, especially when things are sub-contracted.
remco-jan.woldhuis
@JDM: nothing wrong with the fact that the ad agency used Macs. When you are looking for an ad agency you select them on advertising competence, not on the tools they use. It would have been something else if Microsoft employees need Macs to be able to do their day to day job. Or vice versa.
