Nikon School - Beginner Instructional DVD

Recently I picked up a copy of the Nikon School DVD called

Understanding Digital Photography, Release Your Digital SLR's

Potential. While it is clearly intended for beginners and perhaps some

intermediate photographers, I just wanted to see how they present the topics

and $15 is not so expensive.

Overall it covers a lot of useful topics including exposure, portraits,

amateur sports, nature, and low-light photography. A lot of the beginner

questions frequently asked in this forum are covered.

All shooting is demonstrated using, of course, Nikon DSLRs and lenses.

The DVD is hosted by Bob

Krist, who shoots a lot of travel photography for magazines such as

National Geographic Traveler. It runs 45 minutes and is in the 16:9 wide-screen format.

P.S. There is

a companion DVD more dedicated to the D40/D40x.

Since I don't have a D40, I didn't get that one.

Brian, the gold star indicates a sticky thread. I am hoping that this DVD is useful for beginners so that I am keeping the thread around for a little while.

To me, the topics covered are quite fundamental and familiar,

but I am wondering anybody else has watched this DVD and what their impression is. Over the weekend, I watched it with my sister in law. I would classify her as an intermediate-level photographer, but she mainly shoots manual-focus film SLRs and digicams; she has no DSLR experience. While she is already familiar with topics such as exposure, she finds that she has plenty to learn from this DVD.

Bob Krist is a great photographer and a very nice guy. I've worked on a lot of his images. That being said, he only got into dSLR photography a couple of years ago, his early submissions were less than great, so I think he's just the host, most of the info may have come from Nikon.

Thanks for the info Shun. I think this will be a wonderful series for the beginners at our camera club. I also ordered Joe McNally's "Speed of Light". I saw his presentation at this year's NECCC Summer Conference and he was just marvelous. Amongst the creativity and humor, I noted some extraordinary lighting techniques. I hope this DVD fills the bill.

Now 3 years later, it looks like that DVD has been updated to include newer DSLRs that can capture video also. Here is the new link: http://www.nikonmall.com/detail/NIK+5816B
Please keep in mind that I have not seen the new version myself and therefore cannot comment on its quality.
