nathan_johnson1
I have had a strange thing happen to my N70! I was about halfway through a roll of 24 exp film, when all of a sudden, the camera failed. Specifically, I got an "ERR" alert on the display, and the battery indicator showed no power. The odd thing is that when the power is shut off, and then turned back on, everything shows correctly...that is until the shutter is released. As soon as the shutter button is released, (but apparently without the shutter actually doing anything) the "ERR" appears and the battery shows as exhausted. I took it to a local camera store and they said it is probably something electrical. Anybody have a clue as to what specifically that could be? Thanks! patrick_davies1
Sorry to mention the obvious, but the battery could be dead. I've gotten bit by this before on my N8008. Suddenly, the display goes ERR (or something like that) when I hit the shutter button. Power cycling seems to reset the display, but it does something dumb when I hit the shutter again. It seemed that the last thing the camera was actually telling me was that it was out of battery. Another possibility, and I have had this happen with my N70, is that my AF lens suddenly wasn't being recognized as such. It was a problem with the lens (I have since gotten rid of it). The lens was flakey, sometimes it showed ERR (in program mode on my N70), and othertimes it would work fine. I would umount, then remount the lens to get it to work. One day, all the remounting would help it and I stopped using the lens. So, try a different lens and see if the same thing happens, or try a test shot in manual mode. jimh
It's definitely something electrical - the batteries are dead. It's exactly the way an N70 behaves.
nathan_johnson1
Oops! My bad for leaving out that we (myself and the camera store) have tried 4 different sets of batteries. Now maybe all 4 sets could have been defective/ dead, but I'd guess not. I do apperciate the feedback though!
hkbmac
You aren't alone. The same thing happene to my N70. Can't figure it out to save my life. I ended up buying a used N70 to replace mine.
jim_gifford
My N90s had the same symptoms a few years back. I sent it in to Nikon, they replaced the shutter assembly and a circuit board. It's been happy ever since. It wasn't free but it was cheaper than replacing the body.
