david_h._hartman
Does an MC-12A (or MC-12) activate the meter in a Nikon F5 and F100 with a half press of the release button when connected to the camera via the MC-25 adapter cord? Or does it just brainlessly fire at half or full press without the nicety of meter activation and focus?
jay_hector
I use the MC-12a/MC-25 with my D1H, albeit with MF lenses, and it activates the meter normally with a 1/2 press, so I'd assume it would AF too if one were using an AF lens.
jemini_joseph
Yes I guess. MC-30 does everything you can do by pressing the shutter release button. So the mc-12 should do the same.
plattro
I have an MC-25 + MR-3, and it does activate the meter + focusing on a D1 or F5 when pressed half way. My MR-3 must be really sensitive, however, because the difference in how much to press to focus+meter and then to release the shutter is nearly nothing. I think that is due to the mechanical construction of the MR-3, and not due to the electrical characteristics of the MC-25 cable. If I press really careful, I can meter and release separately. david_h._hartman
Thanks for the information! Ill pick one up. Ive tweaked my MC-12A to have a nice "set trigger feel." I put a small self tapping screw in the underside of the fire button to set the backlash so there is only about 0.7mm to 1mm from half press to fire. The MC-30 is so sloppy I cant tell when it will fire or when it will stop firing. Im used to setting all motor drives to C and squeezing off single frame. Yesterday I used my MC-30 and wasted three frames because Im spoiled by the MC-12A.
