za33photo
On my "Made in China" plastic 50mm f1.8 prime lens there is a marking consisting of a "circle" with the number "10" inside it. Does anyone know what this means. Thanks.
q.g._de_bakker
The number of years the soldered connections will be good. More generally, the number of years no toxic (to the environment) substances will get out of the product. After that, it may be an environmental and health hazard. Sanford
Had to look at my Chinese made 50mm Nikkor and there it is! A recycle symbol.

q.g._de_bakker
Had to look at my Chinese made 50mm Nikkor and there it is! A recycle symbol. A RoHS symbol. In electronic devices, such as cameras, this mainly indicates that there is no lead in the solder used. That also means, however, that what the addition of lead was meant to remedy - the growth of whiskers on the tin joint - is now a problem again. Solder joints aren't as durable today as they used to be.
za33photo
Thanks for the replies. Now I am wondering if the plastic used in the lens construction also has a projected lifespan of 10 years before it starts to break down and spontaneously deteriorate. Darned "throwaway" age that we live in. :(.
