antony_glaser
The K matte Fresnel screen of the Nikon FM is absolutely bright and the large micropism centre makes foccusing a pleasurable experience. It even exceeds the OM1's real regarded 97% viewfinder. A total design masterpiece
gary_watson
Until you use it for macro and stop down to check DOF. That big black hole at f/11 is no fun.
john_cox7
Unfortunately it is not interchangeable, unlike the FE, FM2, FE2, FM2N and FM3A with the B and E screen derivatives.
benny_spinoza
I never thought the Nikon FM screens were all that bright. But, it was a very well made camera. After 25 years, I retired mine because the shutter didn't sync well with the flash, and the light meter stopped working. But my 8 year old son uses it now and then! photo5
I have a first gen 1977 Nikon FM purchased on ebay for less than $50 that works perfectly. Too bad I've stopped shooting 35mm film!
msitaraman
I bought mine in 1978 for $300 with a 50/2. It still works flawlessly. Also, it has a viewfinder that is far better for focusing than most modern SLR/DSLRs. Nikon were really concerned with building a camera of the Nikon name back in 1996, when only the F & F2 had that badge (all their other SLRs were Nikkormat or Nikomats). They hit a home run. And another with the FE. And another with the FM2. And the FE2. I'd put the FE and the FM2 slightly ahead of the others, only because of the interchangeable screen. jonderson
Loved my FM (1983). Flawless and dependable operation, solid construction, consistent as all heck. Sold it in 1993 for more than I bought it for, and if I was still shooting film I would buy it back for even more than that because I am sure that it is still going strong.
