The Z9 firmware upgrade from 1.11 to 2.0 takes about 6 minutes and 20 seconds. There are a lot of feature changes so that the Reference Guide is also updated.

I haven't tried it yet, but the firmware description talks about Auto mode which is not what I usually use. My most common mode with the Z6 II is the wide area with face/eye detection, and that too has the tendency of sometimes focusing on someone or something in the background. Less frequently than Auto, but still. I think it'll be a gradual process for Nikon to improve the algorithms and not something they're likely to just make disappear in one FW fix. What's good to see is that Nikon is working on it.

I occasionally use Auto for BIF, when their movement is very hard to follow against a plain sky.

 

The FW update was painless and I'll try it out today and report back.
