Nikon DX 18-55 lens - lens 'stuck' internally

Discussion in 'Nikon' started by windspirit13, Jul 2, 2008.

  1. Lens has sat for months - was using other lens for classes and recreational purposes.

Put it on camera recently but it will not function. Seems to be jammed inside - will not advance or budge.

Has not been rougly handled, but has been sitting an apartment that is not insolated next to the beach, where the climate is
cooler and often foggy. Don't know if climate would factor in. Lens has has only been used a few times, and it worked
    fine during those uses.

Can lens be fixed/repaired? Need recommendations. Photography is a hobby, and funds are limited. Am located in San
Francisco - would welcome recommendations for reliable businesses that might look at it, repair at reasonable cost.

    Thank you.

If it is a Nikon USA lens, all 18-55mm DX should still be under the 5-year extended warranty as long as it hasn't be abused.
I'd say send it to Nikon in El Segundo.
  3. If the lens is not covered under warranty, it would probably not make sense to fix it as the repair cost would likely exceed the cost of purchasing another one.
  4. Just curious really - how is it stuck?
Aperture control stuck? Focus stuck? Zoom stuck? Everything stuck - aaarghhh!
