Nikon D70 with a Sigma>>>>

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had heard about either of these lenses?

 

1- 28-70mm f2.8-4 Zoom Lens Pro(retail $599)

 

2- 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO Zoom Macro super 2 pro lens(retail $599)

 

I got these yesterday but they seem to be nicer than what I expected.

I called the store and the guy told me that these are newly introduced

lenses by Sigma that were just released to the United States. Does

anyone know this to be true? I thought it was a load of crap until I

tried to find the 28-70 Zoom lens PRO and had no success.

The 28-70 sells for $119 and the 70-300 sells for $219 at B&H Photo in New York. They

are not new. I'm not sure about performance, I suspect they are fairly good, but nothing

to write home about.

My personal rule of thumb (from reading reviews and other peoples comments) when looking at Sigma lenses is to buy the EX line if at all possible. Either way make sure you read specs and reviews before you buy. And if a site like http://www.photodo.com/nav/prodindex.html has reviewed the lens and given it good marks all the better!

I have the 70-300 sigma..its a great lens. Works well with the D70. Although I have had this lens for a while, and it has been through alot (like backpacking, and many other abuses). I would say go for the EX line if you can, they are built much better.<div></div>

This lens works fine on my D70, I have no problems (it is slow to AF tho)<div></div>

I use the new Sigma 105mm macro on my D70 for flower and insect photography, often adding extension with excellent results. This is a very sharp lens. I think the high end Sigma lenses can compare favorably with any lens on the market. Long term durability remains to be seen.
