chris m., central florida
I use D70 bodies extensively for all my shooting. I have a D70 that has what appears to be a "red dot" approximately 1-2 pixels wide that appears in the same place in each image, and only on black or dark navy colors. It is the beginning point for a red streak 1-2 pixels wide that runs from the dot through the edge of the image frame. It's very hard to see, but it's there. I'm thinking this is a classic blown pixel. But what about the streak? Could that be caused by a blown pixel then created as the image is written on the card? I've tested my CF cards, it's definitely not the card. Seems to be a sensor or image writing issue. Any ideas? I will send the camera back to Nikon with a sample image for warranty repair if needed. Well, it most certainly sounds like it's needed!
michael_bradtke
Chris You might try emailing Nikon a crop showing the red dot and streak. I had some odd blurrs on my D100 chip and sent them a jpg shiowing them. They emailed me back within 24 hours. That was the fastest responce I have ever had from them. Good luck Michael
grepmat
It sounds like a bad pixel. The D70 uses a CCD, which transfers the charge from a pixel through each subsequent pixel in a column. Hence some problems will result in streaks that extend in one direction. If it's readily noticable, I'd suggest seeing about a warranty repair. Cheers.
