at
Well..my two year old d70 (#301xxxx)developed the BGLOD symptom a couple of weeks ago. Reflecting back to the days just prior to the final failure I recall two things which I never experienced before. Out of approx 200 photos I took more than half were blury or "back focused". The very next day on the very first shot the mirror went up, the flash fired and it froze in that position. Even removing the battery would not allow the mirror to return to its normal position. Being quite frustrated I left it alone for a couple of days. When I returned the mirror was still up (battery still removed). I reinserted the battery and everything worked great for several more days. A few days later I turn the camera on and immediately get the blinking green light. I knew there was a service advisory on the Nikon website and followed the instructions. I shipped the camera out Jan 24th and received it yesterday Feb 2. I must say I am really impressed with Nikons response to this issue. So far every test I've subjected the camera to has passed...no more blinking led, no back focus, etc. They even cleaned the sensor. Hats off to Nikon for the great service. I just wanted to share my experience as some feel that Nikon is loosing ground in products, service and with thier "digital" strategy.
tholte
Same thing happened to me awhile ago and Nikon fixed it no charge even though it was out of warranty. Guess what, I will buy another Nikon when I think I need to upgrade.
bwcombs
I too am pleased with my experience with Nikon on their service of my D70 under similar conditions as yours. They were very responsive and proactive.
aardvarko
Several chunks of my D70's casing were replaced by Nikon when they fixed this problem. Kudos.
sunil_gupta2
Mine was also repaired and I got it backed BEFORE I got the confirmation letter! Came back looking like a new camera.
