david_lichtneker
I've been told my SB 24 speedlight is compatible with my Nikon D70 but I'm not having much success. I set it to Auto but the results are often washed out. Any advice or suggestions as to where I'm going wrong would be much appreciated.
don_cooper
Did you set it to auto, then set the aperture on the SB24 (example F5.6), then set the aperture on the camera to that aperture setting, set the camera to manual, shutterspeed to around 1/30 to 1/125, and aperture the same as set on the flash (F5.6). This setup works very well with the D70. It's made necessary as TTL cannot be used with this flash and the D70.

alan_olander1664878205
You also have to set the "Flash Mode" (CSM Menu - #19) to manual.
frank_skomial
"I've been told my SB 24 speedlight is compatible with my Nikon D70" - you were told wrong, do not listen there anymore. Read your Nikon D70 camera manual and see SB24 flash/camera modes available for your camera, but the advice already given to you above is as good as it can get.
