Nikon Announces the Development of FX Mirrorless Camera

Since the first teaser has been out for a couple of days, this is hardly a surprise:

Here are a few highlights:

1. Initially there is one new mirrorless camera with an FX sensor, featuring a new lens mount, i.e. different from the traditional Nikon F mount for SLRs.
   
2. There will be multiple new lenses to begin with.
   
3. There will be an adapter to mount Nikon F lenses onto this new FX mirrorless camera.
   

No release date is specified, but I expect announcement before Photokina at the end of September, 2018.

Nikon will continue to lead imaging innovation with the launch of the new mirrorless camera and the continued development of Nikon Digital-SLR cameras as well as the impressive NIKKOR lens lineup. Soon, Nikon users will have two industry-leading camera systems to choose from, giving consumers the choice to enjoy the unique values that each system offers.
