radu_diaconu
Hi, I'm looking to buy this lens as a cheaper alternative to the 17-35 onthe "coming soon" Nikon D200. I was wondering if you have any experience with the autofocus and thenoise it makes, since it's not AF-S. I've read the reviews on NikonLinks, but I would like some personalopinions. Regards, Radu D. leicaglow
Radu, I'm very pleased with this lens. I bought it to replace a kit lens that didn't meet my expectations. I find it to be very sharp, contrasty, and colorful. I have some examples in my folders on this site. I use it as the standard lens on my D200. It is one of the fastest, most accurate, and quiet focusing AF Nikkors I own. I'm very pleased with it, but like the 17-35mm, it's fairly large. I recommend this lens every chance I get. I'll try to attach a couple of images from this lens that I took today.<div></div>

savagesax
Great lens! I've had mine for about 5 years. Still looks new and the picture quality also is a 10.

radu_diaconu
Thanks so much for the info and input, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. And thanks for the pictures, they demonstrate what the lens is capable of. Thank you all. Radu.
leicaglow
Hi Jim, I bought the lens to replace the 18-55mm which had too much flare and wasn't sharp at the edges.
larry h-l
Just last night I compared the 18-35mm against the 18-70mm DX, shooting against some thin, backlit tree limbs at sunset using an S3. The 18-35 was much better, showing fine detail that was non-existant in the frames from the 18-70mm. I was quite surprised. But maybe it is sample variation. The 18-70 has a smoother auto-focus action being an AF-S lens, but the 18-35 is relatively quiet as the throw is very short.
