davidecastaldo
Hi all, someone can explain me why my 17-35 lens have this kind on behavior on the focus ring when trying to focus out of the closest focus dinstance? Th lens in perfect,no squeak,no ff/bf, and accurate af. Thanks. Davide
chulster
I think the lens and/or camera is simply (and perhaps justifiably) confused when you try to focus on something that is much closer than the minimum focus distance, as in your video. It doesn't seem fair to expect the camera and lens to know what to do when the subject is two inches away.
davidecastaldo
Yes,but i'm talking about the focus ring movement when trying to focus. Do you think that is normal?
hapien
Movement looks pretty normal to me. In near end of the video there is some hesitation in the movement, but given unusual test scenario I would likely just forget it.

Sandy Vongries
If this is the lens you have Link AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED from Nikon Minimum focus distance is specified Minimum Focus Distance 0.9 ft. ( 0.28 m) You appear to be closer than that, which could be the cause of your problems.
ben_hutcherson
My 17-35 took an unfortunate tumble out of my car a few weeks ago and I can't really observe "normal" focus behavior on it now since the focus is fairly stiff now. With that said, the behavior you're showing was normal both on my lens and on all my other AF-S lenses(really all my AF lenses for that matter) when trying to focus on something too close.
