Night photography with Holga

  1. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on night photography using
    Holga camera.

  2. No tips. Several options. 1) Use flash 2) Use VERY high speed film...but beware because Ilford Delta 3200 has really faint numbers on the back, which are impossible to read in dim light 3) I think Holgamods sells a Holga with "bulb" setting, which would help.

  3. Holga makes a camera that has bulb setting. I have one, it works grrrreat!

  4. Mr. Perrault, what model Holga has a bulb setting, does it have a cable release socket, and where can you buy it?

  5. http://www.holgamods.com/

Randy from holgamods converts them himself, freestyle photoghaphic has them from holga. Randy's are most likely better.

  6. Thanks, I'll see what Freestyle has.

  7. Another recommendation for holgamods.

  8. S LIU, your holga shots are fantastic.

  9. I have the holga with bulb. And to answer the person that asked which model has bulb setting, none...but www.holgamods.com sells the modified Holga with bulb setting. Randy at holgamods no longer sells the 120S Holgas but now has Holga 120n and i am sure he still does the bulb modification to that one. Hope that helps u. So thank you for all your help contributors but I know how to take the night shots but was hoping for some tips...I really haven;t gotten any great results....unfortunately I didn;t have the extra dough to get the cable release mod. I wish i had. That woulda helped. Also nothing to do with this question but, My holga is too good....I am a little dissapointed. All in focus, no light leaks, has the vignette and obviously viewfinder is not on the mark but i dunno...any idea on how to mess it up a bit? haha.

  10. Mess it up a bit? Hmmm - maybe kick it across the room a few times and clean the lens with a Q-tip dipped in scouring powder. I don't know. Just a thought. Anyhoo, it's pretty easy to fix the shutter so it will stay open as long as your finger is on the button. Just mess around with the position of the shutter spring.

This is not correct. The new Holga 120N comes _from the factory_ with a bulb setting and a tripod mount.

  12. Yes, any Holga 120N comes with a B-setting.

Don't use flash, use a tripod, and slow films. (not if you're going to do nightly street photography, of course, but for still life, landscape etc).

An example someone else made: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/17469969/

400 ISO, one hour twenty minutes shutter...
