don_boyd3
There was some earlier discussion about using Macro Lenses in a Non-Macro mode. My search for old slides in my household goods continues. Here's a scan of my latest finds to illustrate my shooting experience with only a Macro lens in my kit. Tons of fun. The Nikon Coolscan V is more fun than's legal. Don B in Hampton Roads
tomscott
Great shots Don, would love to see more, especially of Ipswich.
tomscott
Come to think of it Don, this may be off topic, but were you there during the alien invasion?
don_boyd3
I don't think so (do you feel OK?) The only alien I saw in East Anglia was the Lt Col I worked for. But one of the crowning achievements of my career was getting the *** fired <G>.
tomscott
Thats too funny Don. I figured you had seen it I believe it was on the history channel, but there was supposedly 2 different UFO landings in the woods near Bentwaters/Woodbridge, I believe in '80. http://www.hyper.net/ufo/rendlesham.html
tomscott
Not that I'm some kind of UFO nut there Don, I just thought it was funny when I first heard about it years ago that it happened in a place I used to live.
User_502260
This discussion came up with regard to macro lenses in the 50-55 range. If I could only carry one lens it would be a 35/2 Canon FD SSC (concave front element) for general shooting and a 50/3.5 Canon FD SSC or New FD for hiking. I have used the 100/4 New FD as a general purpose 100mm lens when light is good but I find focusing for non-macro purposes easier with a 100/2.8 or 85/1.8. tomscott
Well, for me the one lens kit is the 35-105 f/3.5 Macro, as long as the light holds out.
philip_wilson
I have owned this lens for many years but rarely use it for anything other than macro work. If I need a short tele then I usually take a 85mm F1.2 or 135mm F2 - both are a class above the 100 F4 for shots other than Macro. If I take a single lens it will usually be one of the following 24mm F2, 35mm F2 or 35mm F2.8 Tilt Shift, 35-105 f3.5, 85mm F1.2. For some reason I never end up taking a 50mm lens!
