spot_.
<<f4? too slow>> Dont tell Leica that. They are hoping to sell a trunk load of t-es
sparkie
t-es ?
john_shriver
I presume t-es is Tri-Elmars (the new wide one). Looks like they are offering some more economic slower wide angles. Some of the first generation of ZM wide angle lenses struck me as very long, they must intrude into the finder.
sparkie
thanks john. the new tri-elmar is too slow in my books also. i understand its f4 for size, weight and cost reasons. good for lanscapes etc, but too slow for low light work. the 28/2.8 looks interesting, small light and compact. pity leica didnt make it an f1.4, as it looks like Leica could make it the size of a the 4th Vers 28/2.
sparkie
but i do see the major benefit of the new tri-elmar: one camera, three -lenses in one. great for travel and when you want to carry a minimum of kit, plus no lens changing, eliminating dust concerns
vinay_patel
I don't understand...why would Zeiss make a lens to compete with the 50/4 it sells to Hasselblad...unless Hasselblad has cut their ties with Zeiss altogether?
arthuryeo
Donald, How did you find this link. I cannot see this anywhere in their press release page both in the German and US sites. Search came up with nothing about Photokina either. Was this a link leaked out from internal sources?
raymond_tai
Vinay, Zeiss CFi lenses are no longer made and what you can get now are the last of it. The V series is finished.
vinay_patel
Oh, I see. Zeiss is making new lenses for a discontinued camera line with tens of thousands of used lenses on the market. Makes perfect sense. Not!
ronald_moravec1
It makes perfect sense. Most of the `blad lenes have been used professionally and are worn. The shutters fail without warning. That was the reason for the CFi lenses, a new material shutter spring with increased life. You have no idea how many cycles a `blad lens has on it and when it is eady to fail. 4.0 and 4.5 make perfect sense for those who work outdoors. Why carry big heavy glass if you will not use it wide open? A tripod is the best fast lens there is for indoors. I will bet these will sell for 1/3 the price of Leica glass. donald_ingram1
Arthur, I cannot claim any inside information : I saw this Nikon ZF thread on the photo.net unified view, and noted the above ZM and ZV lenses

I bet a lot more, cash strapped, M8 buyers will buy the 18mm ZM lens, rather than the 16-21 Tri-Elmar

If Zeiss are planning to go through their back catalogue: perhaps they could rangefinder couple their 38mm and 60mm Biogons along with the 80mm Planar, and make a nice little Zeiss-Ikon 6x6 RF camera :-)

I hear a CLA with a new shutter spring and flash contacts on a Hasselblad lens from an independent shop runs something like $150. Is the "new" Zeiss lens less expensive than a used Hasselblad lens and a CLA? It seems off that someone would be OK with buying a professionally-worn body and getting it serviced, but prefer to pay dearly for a new lens than get a used one rebuilt. Whatever, I've never owned a Blad and never would. Just seemed like a minuscule market for this product. Their 35mm-mount lenses they can make in a number of mounts, many of which have dSLRs available too.
nasmformyzombie
Am I the only one who has a problem with the links? I've tried them multiple times with no success. Also, navigating to the Zeiss home page, and then to photo products, I see no info whatsoever referencing new ZM lenses 18mm f4, or 21mm f4.5. karl_keung
try: www.camera-info.com it seems zeiss has deleted the original page. it is nice to see Zeiss glass reincarnates itself onto Leica M and Nikon F.
