rokkor fan
Hi all, I have just uploaded the second installment of my review of Minolta's standard lenses. This instalment focuses on the fast 50s - the 50mm f/1.4 MD Rokkor-X and the 50mm f/1.4 MC Rokkor-PG. I am sure that many of you have one of these sweet lenses, so here is your chance to find out how it stacks up against the other, and also the f/1.2 lenses. The new page can be accessed from the Lens Review directory here: http://www.rokkorfiles.com/Lens%20Reviews.html You may even wish to open two windows (file/new/window) in order to directly compare the f/1.2 lenses to their cheaper and lighter bretheren. Best regards, Antony Hands
andykowalczyk
Great job! I looked back over your f/1.2 as well. I have been shooting handheld at night with the 58mm f/1.2 MC mounted on an SRT101. I believe such a massive arrangement of glass and metal was Minolta's first attempt at an Anti-Shake system :-)
rokkor fan
Well, anti-shake until your arm muscles give out! ;o) If you think that's heavy though, wait until you have used it on an XK Motor - those 10 AA's that drive its motor, together with a motor made the old fashioned way (lots of brass, steel, copper wire etc.) mean you are very glad it came with a strap. Thanks for the feedback! Cheers, Antony
ivan_dzo
Anthony, thanks for this addition to your brilliant series of tests. As always the standard is impeccable and supports my findings of these two 50mm lenses. You mention the 58/1.4, and I've recently tested three "samples" of this lens. There is some sample variation, but not as great as I thought. At f2, the best of these is comparable to the above tested 50's but not so good wide open. I'd certainly be interested in seeing your results with this lens. thanks again, Ivan
rokkor fan
Hi Ivan, A friend in Sydney has agreed to send his down to me so I will be doing the review at some stage in the next month or so. You would not believe the number of emails I have got already asking for me to review it. Cheers, Antony
kin_lau
Thanks for the great review. I'm looking forward to the 58/1.4 review. My SRT101 + 58/1.4 is one of my favourite shooters.
peter_svensson
I can't believe the MC Rokkor PG is from 1973! It's a great lens. But the bokeh hasn't bowled me over, and your finding that the MD version is better in that respect is very intriguing. Now I'm curious about the non-Rokkor X 50/1.4... nee_sung
Antony I enjoyed your photography more than your tests. :-)
