henricus
I just bought a minty Olympus OM2 that is missing the motordrive cap. The dealer tells me this is a common missing part. Anyone know where I can find one or at least point me in the right direction. By the way this camera is like carrying a Leica M, it is so small! michael_shia
Visit the Camtech web site at http://www.zuiko.com/. They sell all the camera caps for the OM-1,2,3,4 cameras and alot more. Good Luck,
henricus
Michael, Thanks! Got it and you're right, they have other things too. :-)
fernando_gonzalez_gentile
Henry, I'm sorry but in Mr. Hermanson's site he says: OM-1 thru 2N MD cap....................... NOT AVAILABLE (see Ebay for Beljan Manufacturing.) Yes it is a so common missing part that not even at Camtech... better buy a Winder 2. If MD cap is missing, film will be fogged. That's why from OM4 and OM10 onwards, MD coupling design was changed. Fernando.
henricus
Fernando, I've put electrical tape over the opening while I wait for my cap. I've ordered a one from Beljan Manufacturing for $16.00! I don't want the MD, I got the OM2 for it's diminutive size and weight. I have an EOS 3 with a motor, autofocus and all the other gadgets that go on 35mm cameras these days and I rarely use it. I like 'em small and simple now. :o) Thanks just the same. Best, Henry Chavez
john_fleetwood
I made a cap by cutting down the top of a film can. Just whittle it down till it fits. All my OMs have electrical tape on the bottom to keep the caps from falling off.
henricus
John,<p> Is this a common occurrence with both caps or just the MD cap? I'm putting some Loctite on my MD cap before putting it on. I don't intend on getting a MD, so access isn't an issue.
douglas_green1
There's an ebay seller named "beljanmfg" who makes replacements for the drive coupling cover and for the battery chamber cover. Not cheap at $16.25 per, but they do fit. I bought one from him
kieran_hamill
Henry - it's common for the motor drive caps to get lost simply because you have to remove them to fit the motor drive. Then they get lost and are never refitted. They don't just fall off as far as I am aware.
henricus
Thanks Kieran, that is what I was wondering. I won't be using the MD, so it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks again.
john_fleetwood
The cap just fell off my OM-1, never to be seen again. Eventually I found one at a local repair shop. The owner just gave me one from a trashed OM-2. It pays to cultivate relationships with the local camera guys.
