I did a search to see if my name would come up in this Introduction Forum, and it did not, so I'll introduce myself. I've created a new account after more than 15 years of inactivity.

My name is Glen E. Johnson. I used to participate when photo.net was a much younger and smaller labor of Philip Greenspun's love. Memories of George (Philip's beautiful Samoyed), the newly adopted Alex (also a Samoyed), and the highly successful travelogue entitled "Travels with Samantha," were ever present. A donation to Angell Animal Medical Center on behalf of George would be enough for Philip to send you a beautiful print of your choice from his best work. Two or three of them still proudly hang in my office.

Film was still important in those days. Digital cameras would typically set you back 5 figures for a megapixel. A lot of the questions were about exposure, processing, and printing of transparancy and negative films, and I could generally answer these. There were also a lot of questions about how to turn your film into an image that could be posted ... in other words, scanning. I couldn't help with these, and still can't.

Some of my old content can be found via these links.

My old posts were under the name Glen E. Johnson. I tried to get the old account reactivated a few years back when I decided to succumb to the digital draw, but it was harder than it looked, and this effort was not successful.

In any event, in recent years I've found more free time for photography again. I've been making photographs for nearly 60 years, and for 30+ of those years, I did my own processing and printing. I finally embraced the end of my commitment to film about 10 years ago. The grieving is over, and I've accepted the loss. I know I'm not the last to leave the building. The lights flicker, but my back is now turned.

My commitment to digital has slowly gained traction over the last 9 years. At this point I am "all in."

I've recently entered a "gushing" phase where everything just seems so incredibly cool. I marvel at what can be done now that we're free of the constraints of film.

So ... I look forward to getting reacquainted with old friends (there must be a few still here). And I look forward to learning from the many people here who are farther along in their digital journey. I'm pleased to be back.
