I looks like an Instamatic.

Pitty the old film cartridges are no longer available. That is what made them easy to use for the average person.

It's a good job it has a "built in lens".

 

But making it half frame seems like a strange decision.

Half frame is one way to mitigate the problem of high cost of film, but I think I could find a working Olympus Pen EE-2 for less than $50.

I think the half frame is to save cost of film. Unlike before if you shoot half frame you save the cost of the roll of film and perhaps a little bit on the C41 processing but you have to pay the same for the printing with RA4 process. Today the cost of the roll of film is high and the C41 processing is a bit high but the cost of scanning and printing digitally are cheap so it means significant saving.

Anything that keeps the labs open is fine by me! Casual/rookie film shooters should love these Kodak cameras. Gateway drug...
