Another from last Sunday's excursion to Antelope Island. No antelope, but the bison herd was camped out on the easterly, lee- and shadowed-side of the island, making for dim and very flat light, late in the day, and under a mostly cloudy sky.

The 200-500/5.6 got a workout on this trip, on top of a TC-14E1 on the D810. The poor light required relatively high ISO, given the effective maximum aperture of f/8 with the TC. This image went further, to f/16, seeking more DoF across the herd. I'm still experimenting with this combination on both the D810 (as seen here), and the D7100. I'm getting to the point where I think the D810+TC14+200-500/5.6 is almost indiscernible in sharpness versus the D7100+200-500/5.6 without TC. (The D7100 only gives a single AF point with the TC, so it sees little use on that body.) This lens is less than a stellar performer in dim light, and I'm not sure the D810's excellent low light performance can make up for it. What experience have others had with this lens? I find it works great in good light, on both FX and DX bodies. Also, any suggestions for an alternative PP? I shoot everything in Nikon NEF raw and convert to DNG in LR5.
