N80 'Bulb' mode photography

Recommended Posts

I have a Nikon N80 with the additional battery pack. I need to take

night exposures that are longer than 30 seconds and the camera goes

up to 30 seconds before flipping into the 'Bulb' mode. Once in the

bulb mode, I have to use a stopwatch and hold the shutter release

depressed - is there anything better that could take longer

exposures - maybe couple of minutes, without me constantly depressing

the shutter release?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Actually I also have an F65 besides my F80, and the only thing I like more about the F65 than the F80 is that it has a T shutter instead of a B, so I always use that for night shots. I don't really get why they do B, when they can do T. It is much more of a hassle to use. Also, is there any particular reason why they don't have T shutter on a mechanical camera, like the FM3? That drives me nuts.

The N80 accepts a <a

href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=37073&is=REG"

target="_new"><u>Nikon AR-3 cable release</u></a>. This cable

release has an excellent lock. Its 12" long and the

price is $1.50 per inch ($17.95, USD). Spiratone sells a similar

cable release thats 20 or 21" long that has similar

quality and the same type of locking collar. Dont buy one

with a little finger screw as these can release prematurely.<br>

The Nikon F100, F5 and other accept the <a

href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=108425&is=REG"

target="_new"><u>MC-30 remote release</u></a>. This release has a

lock for time exposures on "B" creating a virtual

"T" setting. Yes batteries are used. No it doesnt

cost $200.00 but rather $54.95 (USD). Even the <a

href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=37718&is=USA"

target="_new"><u>MC-20 remote trigger with timer</u></a> is only

$104.95 (US), 89.95 (gray).<br>

<br>

A lot of Nikon stuff is over-priced but let's not get carried away.<br>

<br>

Cheers,<br>

Dave.

This thread reminded me of some snaps I took with a friends point and shoot, as I was caught by surprise. There are 120 of these N80, 50/f1.8 puppies, all lens's have a 6.5 inch center to center distance, running NPZ800, it took about nine seconds from the first shutter to the last to complete the sequence, giving the Visual Effects people the matrix shot. It sounded incredible, cascading dominos.<div>006S5T-15199484.jpg.42a584bfae87f8956551441f571a29b5.jpg</div>
