Sanford
Has a function button ever changed its function. You set it to perform a certain function and suddenly its set to do something else, seemingly changing all by itself. I can see accidentally pressing a button or combination of buttons and causing this to happen, but some of this stuff has to be set from deep in the menus. Ed_Ingold
Configuration, including programmable buttons, may change when the firmware is updated. You have to manually resolve conflicts when firmware adds or changes some functions. Adding to the confusion, buttons can also perform different functions in different modes, including still shooting, video and image review. A Sony A7xxx has 50 pages or so of menus and dozens of assignable functions. Delving through them can be a career opportunity.

Sandy Vongries
Yesterday I inadvertently switched my recently acquired Leica D-Lux 109 from single to max burst. Three images a total of 124 times before I caught on. I had the shutter set to silent and didn't check the photos till I got home. Probably happens with cameras in the " learning" stage, or those not recently used. Mostly I remember to check the menu periodically - too much going on. If enough folks do that at the same time will it warp the space time continuum?
Ed_Ingold
Sometimes buried in a menu is better. I have to continually check exposure comp (dedicated dial) and ISO (4-way selector), which get changed as I handle the camera to keep it from swinging around. The 4-way on a Nikon has a lock, but not Sony ;(
Bill Bowes
My X-E1 users guide book is carried in the camera kit for just these type moments of Woo-Woo. Bill
Sandy Vongries
Actually, I have all of my camera manuals on my Kindle Fire - BIG space saver, and worth the inconvenience (to me, at least!)
Moving On
Amusingly ironic... I was always amused that my DSLR came with a very thick paper manual......
Sandy Vongries
The Leica D-Lux 109 came with a disc!
paul ron
some cameras have a small button battery that powers the configuration memory, saving settings. if that battery is weak or dead, your configurations will get lost when you shut the camera off. The more you say, the less people listen.

chuck909
Hmm - so why have I stuck with manual 35mm & MF cameras when I can have all the fun mentioned above?
