My new photographic competitions website

I've develop a website which propose you some photographic competitions around a theme.<br>

It's terrible. Really. Text is all over the place mixed in with so many ads that I can't really tell what I'm supposed to do. I

would never send an image to a site like this. There are already so many competitions and photo sharing sites on the web;

if you can't do something better or at least different, why bother?

I'm trying to improve my website, but with comment like yours I can't come forward.<br>

Ads are present to make funds. My aim is to propose little gifts for winners.</p>

<p>Jean, It does strike me as a little cluttered as well. There is an odd button that appears at the bottom (I'm sorry, my French is very rusty), so I can't tell you what it says. Something about KDosGratos. There are way too many fonts and colors on that button, and it changes content continuously. It is not very professional looking.</p>

<p>The ads are very distracting. Perhaps one way to deal with them, since you're looking for revenue, is to make sure the page width is 100% or so, forcing the ads more to the right. Since the pages are all black, it is difficult to tell what's what on the page. Perhaps white would work better. And the images in the Archive (winners?) are just terrible. One looks like a bad flash shot of desert.</p>

<p>Even if I change the language to English, the poll comes up in French. The registration page is a mess. Fields come up all over the place with the prompts. You should at least put the prompts and fields in their own columns and align to right and left, respectively. I think what Mark might be suggesting is that the combination of these errors makes the site look amateurish. I admit that I don't ever submit images to competition sites, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but these are just my opinions.</p>

<p>I do NOT do contests, but if you want to have them, you need explicit and detailed rules. Many so-called 'contests' are just rights grabs to get free photography.</p>

<p>Jean, it may be useful to talk about <em>why </em>you are doing contests? I don't participate in contests either, but is it to allow photographers more notoriety? More exposure? It might be worth saying what's in it for them. You might consider getting vendors to kick in prizes or something as well. You might also limit the number of contests you have, and you might look for sites in France that promote competitions, like DaylightOnline.com, here in the US.</p>

ive had a look at the site and i am confused more than enticed. It says it a competition site but there are no references to why i would enter, what i get and who these "players" who vote are. Seems you have a long way to go before any serious photographer would enter an image.<br>

Why have you set the site up? is it purely financial gain? i cannot see how your site offers anything to rival sites such as <a href="http://www.photocompetitions.com/">http://www.photocompetitions.com/</a> or <a href="http://www.snapalley.com/">http://www.snapalley.com/</a> or even competitions offered by the thousands on sites like flickr.<br>

Personally i will enter competitions but these are usually high profile events which either high end cash rewards or a large profile boost. On occassion i have submitted to countryfile but just for fun. Maybe you would be better trying to attract attention from a more casual photographic community? either way good luck with whatever your direction is!</p>
