BeBu Lamar
Yesterday while shooting an event I found that the meter on my Df quit working. The camera acts like you always have the lens cap on that is the metering sensor sees no light. I could finish the shoot on manual with no meter but I am wondering if there is some settings that would cause it to behave that way? In live view it works fine because it doesn't use the same sensor for metering.
rodeo_joe1
Only thing I can suggest is a 2 button reset, but I guess you might already have tried that. I don't think there's any menu setting that can turn the metering off. Otherwise it sounds like it's a repair job, sorry to say.
hapien
There is setting b2 for optimal exposure fine tuning. If this setting could be way off, it might explain why meter sees no light. I do not know if such large compensation is even possible. This should affect also liveview metering, so I do not think this is it.
BeBu Lamar
I guess so! I talked to Nikon tech support and they said to send it in for service. I have important shoot on the 22-25 and again the 4/7. Too bad.
BeBu Lamar
Today while doing the shoot the meter suddenly started to work again. However, it would sometimes quit. So it's intermittent now instead of totally dead. I am not sure it's worse or better because intermittent problem may make Nikon service center to think there is no problem or the problem fixed. Andrew Garrard
Ah, the famous "Heisenbug" (it's uncertain whether it will work). I hate those. You might be unlucky and have them come back with "it works for me..." Short of warning them to try it more than once, I can only wish you luck. Sounds like a dodgy connection or dry joint somewhere. Sandy Vongries
I have important shoot on the 22-25 and again the 4/7. If I were you, I'd send yours in and rent / test a camera for your events. If you can't rent a DF, even at the start of the time I got the D 750, I didn't have a lot of trouble switching back and forth from the DF. Best of luck with it - I know I'd miss mine though I do have backup cameras. The other option would be to carry a light meter and send after your events - but something else could stop working at the worst time.
JDMvW
I've never actually rented anything from them, but have got to know them and trust them through their actually statistically significant reviews. Here's LensRentals.com for a Df

Thanks Sandy but as I have said I were doing the shoot on the 22, 23 and 24. I did it on manual without the meter. On the 23 the meter started to work and then quit. On today which is the 24 the meter worked most of the time but from time to time it didn't work. I will use the camera on the 27 before I send it in. I do have 2 excellent meters but I don't think I would use them. Fully manual is OK for me.
