jordi_rosales
Hello, melodious leicaphils: The shutter sound of my screwmount III-f is much louder and metallic than that of the m3 and m6. Comparatively the m's make music (specially m3) while the f-III makes noise. My question: Is it so due to the shutter construction, or could things be better with a CLA on my III-f ? Thank you very much for any advice
jay_.
<<Comparatively the m's make music (specially m3) while the f-III makes noise>> You've got some very rare, valuable Leicas there. I own or have owned at least a dozen Leicas, LTM and M, and all any of them ever made was photographs.
david_doyle2
My IIIf is noisy compared to the 2 M's I've owned, and why I don't know. But as Jay has mentioned. all mine has done is to make photos. It has been CLA'd and is like new.<div></div>
roger c
Is it a BD or RD? The RD should be quieter as there's less weight to move (although it travels faster). At least, my IIf RD is a fair bit quieter than my IIIa (which isn't exactly noisy).
Rob F.
I find the thread-mount Leicas to be louder, and higher in pitch, as if they were dry and in need of a lube job. That might in fact contribute to their sound, but I think they are intrinsically different in sound compared to the M's to begin with.
ray_tai4
Roger is right the red dial is quieter than the earlier black dial IIIf. It was due to a shutter upgrade as I recall. My RD is very quiet. I haven't compared the noise level to the M but I guess the M has more metal and larger lenses to dampen the vibration?
todd frederick
Jorge...It is not a mechanical problem. This sound is not uncommon. For those who are blessed it is the voice of your guardian angel, and and he wants to to make visual music with your camera...and enjoy your experiences.
