Museums in Chicago

Downtown Chicago on Saturday. Can someone suggest museums that display black

and white photography in Chicago for a trip tomorrow, October 14th?

The Art Institute of Chicago at 111 S. Michigan displays photographs, mostly B&W as part of their permanent display. There are a dozen other museums that may have their own collection.

the art institute has some fantastic work up right now, in fact they just put up a fantastic new photography exhibit that includes the black and white work of sally mann -- easily one of my favorite b&w photographers.

 

downstairs in their dedicated photo gallery they've got a small show up with a lot of mixed work, all in black and white. perhaps you've heard of some of the photographers they're showing: steiglitz, weston, atget, cartier, etc etc.

 

south down michigan ave you'll find columbia college's museum of contemporary photography which is currently displaying a lot of color work.

 

if you're comfortable taking the L, you can also head north up to the gallery district and check out the catherine edelman gallery which is currently showing the work of michael kenna which completely blew my mind.

Thanks for the lead. The Art Institute was fabulous with photos of many of the 20th century masters shown in the downstairs gallery.
