MP viewfinder retro fix

I've just spent the day at the Leica UK HQ, and during the visit was

told that the viewfinder flare retro fix to early M7 and M6TTL etc

cameras do not have all the improvements that were included in the MP

and later M7 cameras. This was described as being the exclusion of,

all

glass and prism surfaces (inside the viewfinder system) being multi

- coated, which is done on the MP and later M7's.

I have to accept that what was said is true, and I guess the early

M7's and other retro fixed M cameras will still be avoided by those

who want the very latest viewfinder system in their camera.

In the real world I don't suppose it makes any difference, except for

those having paid for the retro fit and finding they have not got the

full works.

Regards

Bruno

The M4-2 and earlier bodies had equal flare resistance to the MP, and they did not have any multicoating, just the larger hole in the mirror and the added condensor lens. So while there may be some added improvements in the full MP/Late-M7 finder, the Leica upgrade should be satisfactory. And I suspect that the multicoatings might improve the contrast of the image itself, but have little or nothing to do with the patch white-out. Evidence of this is that the early M7's had multicoated front finder windows and people still b*tched non-stop about the patch flare.
