mitch epstein

i was admiring some photos by mitch epstein and they were all taken with a wide lens. can anyone tell me which focal length he most used and also which camera, just out of interest. thanks. seb

Hate to chime in when I don't have the correct/full answer (normally I hate that), but I only do so because I, too, admire his photos. My understanding is that he uses medium format for much of his work. Which set of photos are you referring to, specifically?

I went and saw him speak recently at the Photographers gallery in London. He indicated he is using a 5x4 camera and a Mamiya MF, but did have a Leica back in his hotel room :)

 

I am unsure about the focal lengths sorry.

 

The photos from the book 'Recreation' are all probably taken with a Leica and Kodachrome.

 

The later and more current work I assume is mainly MF and 5x4.
