Minolta SRT 101 stuck at 1/1000 speed.

Hi!

I got my hands on minolta srt 101, with original bag, UV filter, flash and 2 lenses. But I discvored an issue with camera. The shutter speed seems to be stuck 1/1000, on the other speeds it still fires at 1/1000 (compared it to my olympus om2).

Any suggestions how to fix it? Thx!

Some cameras revert to a fixed high speed before they've been wound on to frame number one. A low or dead battery also reverts many cameras to a fixed shutter speed - rarely 1000th second though.

So three questions:

Are you sure it's 1000th second?

Have you checked the battery?

And have you read the manual?

Otherwise, if the problem persists, send it back. It's just yet another old film camera after all.

It's mechanical: in simple terms the second shutter curtain is releasing without being delayed by the camera's clockwork and levers. Does the mirror flip up when you press the release? Fixing it could be as simple as getting a "clean, lube, adjust" for the mirror kick gearset by a person who remembers how to do 101's. But, as said, the repair cost would be more expensive than the camera.
