Minolta Dynax 7000i camera and 35-80mm AF lens-incompatibilty

I recently bought a second hand minolta dynax 7000i. I already

possessed two AF lenses for my previous camera (a minolta dynax 3xi).

My 70-210/4.5-5.6 zoom lens works perfectly on the 7000i but the 35-

80/4-5.6 lens does not. I noticed that the 7000i camera body and the

zoom lens each have only five contact points where they meet whereas

the 35.80 mm lens has eight contact points on it (as does my old 3xi

camera body).

Does this explain why my 7000i camera and 35-80mm lens are

incompatible? If so can I change the contact points on the 35-80mm

lens so thatit will work with the 7000i camera body (and if I can is

this a technical job or could i do it if I had the right components?

Regards

I had similar problems with a 7000i and the 80-200 power zoom lens. The xi series

requires the extra contacts to power the motor in the lens that does the 'power zooming'.

As far as I know, xi lenses should work by selecting the manual zoom setting, but it's

annoying to have features on the lens that don't work correctly.
