ky2
I'm looking for a tough manual focus, F-mount nikon body to backup my DSLR (yes, I really want a manual focus film camera to do that-- Really Really!). Apart from the indestructable F3HP, which I'd love to have, but could never afford new, which one would you suggest (Or have, or willing to sell) for the task? I got lost with all the FM2A/N/FE/FM/F3A etc... I need some kind of an Av mode, and the body needs to be able to use my current F mount lenses which are all new designs. I'd appreciate any help, Yaron
majid
The FM3A is the obvious choice given your requirements. It won't support "G" lenses, though, including the AF-S Nikkors. You should be able to get a used F3 for about $400-500, the same price as a new FM3A. Many were bought by rich amateurs who didn't shoot many rolls. d_h6
Yaron, The FM3A seems to be the best fit for you. I would recommend it over the F3HP for film backup body. It has Aperture Priority mode as you want. The FM3A is a hybrid electronic and mechanical body which will work without the battery power at all shutter speeds. It has metal constructed body in a compact size. You can get a new FM3A for around $500-$600. If you have a smaller budget, look for an used FM2N. vedearduff
"It won't support "G" lenses, though, including the AF-S Nikkors." The only AF-S lenses that will not work with the FM3a are the 24-85mm AF-S G and the upcoming 70-200mm AF-S VR G. Any of the other AF-S lenses will work just fine (no AF, obviously) on an FM3a or any other AI or later manual body. Vernon
